Lisa A. Cohen, CEO and Principal
Lisa is the CEO and Principal of Capital Motion LLC, a boutique consulting firm that works with executives and boards who are at decision or inflection points in their organization’s life cycles. Clients include charitable nonprofits, mission-driven organizations and investment firms, and other private sector businesses. Engagements typically focus on identifying and leveraging opportunities for growth and expansion, creating financial and organizational stability and sustainability, structuring and building boards, developing alliances and partnerships, and mission-aligned investing.
Lisa is a successful serial entrepreneur, having launched two firms prior to Capital Motion that served the private sector, one of those a leading advisory, research, analytics and strategy firm active in sustainable investing. That firm was an early signatory to the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment.
Lisa has served in executive leadership positions in both the private and nonprofit sectors. Lisa was a Managing Director and Senior Vice President at Evergreen Investments, a Director at John Hancock, and a Director at the Girl Scouts, running lines of business that resulted in significant asset/money raises at each organization. Lisa is a graduate of Smith College and has completed Harvard’s Executive Education program in Investment Decisions and Behavioral Finance.
Lisa is a published author and opinion columnist and frequent public speaker; look for Lisa’s current blog on NonProfitPRO’s PROSPEAK. Lisa is a member of the Boston Club, currently chairing the Nonprofit Research Committee. Her board work also includes serving as Treasurer of the nonprofit Cause Fund, and as past president of both the Boston Smith College Club and Boston Women Communicators, as a founding board member of the historic Dwight-Derby House Board of Directors, as a member of the Advisory Board of investment firm Wellesley Investment Partners, and as a member of her community’s Historical Commission.
